Petitie #251: Resolve the plight of the Dutch from Dutch East Indies.

His Excellency Shinzo ABE

Prime Minister of Japan

The Hague, 13 October 2015

Petition: 251

Subject: Resolve the plight of the Dutch from Dutch East Indies.

Excellency,

In our petition 250 of 8 September 2015 we asked the question: What next? after your statement on Friday, August 14th 2015. In your statement on the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II you admit “that Japan lost sight of the overall trends in the world.” Obviously you took that in consideration when you pledged at the annual UN meeting in New York $ 1.5 billion for the Middle East refugees and for peace building in the Middle East and Africa. In doing so you realize what sufferings victims of war conflicts have to endure.

Prime Minister

You promised too that Japan “will engrave in our hearts” the sufferings of the victims.

We expect you to pledge your moral commitment to the Dutch victims of the Japanese occupation of Dutch East Indies during World War II. They were victims of war and morally deserve the same consideration you, on behalf of Japan, extend to the Middle East and African victims. In this way you can demonstrate that your commitments to peace and prosperity are not hollow but meaningful.

Prime Minister,

The Foundation of Japanese Honorary Debts is ready to open bilateral talks in seeking a suitable resolve for the Dutch from Dutch East Indies.

On behalf of the Foundation of Japanese Honorary Debts.

J.F. van Wagtendonk

President
